Hi!
“Who Are You Really If Not your Roles? - Let's Find Out!"
Have you ever given thought to who you are beyond your roles?
Does it hit close to home: "Who are you if not your roles?"
It’s a question that can make you pause, and really think about what makes you, well, you.
Do you tend to define yourself by your roles: job title, familial responsibilities, your social roles? Fact is most people do.
But if those labels are removed what are you left with?
Who are you when you’re not wearing those masks?
Think about it: When someone asks you to tell them something about yourself does your response focus on your roles? ‘I’m a teacher, a doctor, mother, president of a company, or some other role?
But is that all there is to you?
Are you defined solely by the roles you play in other people’s lives?
News flash: you’re not.
There is so much more to you than your roles.
You are a kaleidoscope of experiences, emotions, and dreams.
Your passions, your quirks, your values are all a part of who you are.
But unfortunately, you can get so wrapped up in your roles that you lose sight of the person beyond the labels, the total You.
I've been there.
I was so caught up in my role as a Community Relations Worker that I forgot about all the other things that made me who I am.
But when I asked myself the same question: “who am I without my job - a major role in my life” things began to shift.
There is no question that your roles may be a big part of your life, but they’re definitely not the whole picture.
They're just one piece of the total you!
Knowing who you are beyond your roles is so important.
That’s what keeps you true to yourself – no matter what life brings you.
So I ask you again - who you are beyond your roles? Give it some thought. I would love to hear your answer.
Hugs,
