Confessions of a Consummate Self-Avoider!

Hey there,

I’m curious - do you regularly take time to listen deeply to yourself?

By that I mean tuning in to your own thoughts and feelings.

I have found that doing so can have a profound positive impact on your life.

It took me years to understand that!

Let me share a bit of my story.

As one who was an  expert at self-avoidance I never set aside time to listen to myself!

I didn’t want to face my own thoughts and emotions.

Why? Because it was downright scary!

So for many, many years, I closed myself off from myself.

Instead, I listened to everyone else's voice, taking on their values, beliefs, and opinions.

I followed paths that weren't my own.

Guess where that led me? I lost myself!

I had no clue what my core values or beliefs were.

I couldn't even tell you what I truly wanted in life.

Confidence? Zilch.

Self-doubt was my constant companion.

Trusting my own decisions? Nope!

I felt an emptiness inside me that nothing could fill.

Anger often bubbled up, and I couldn't even explain why.

I wore so many masks that I no longer knew who I was.

I even wondered who was the person people liked?

Then something happened that made me realize:

I was living someone else’s life.

I needed to reclaim my own!

I finally came to understand that listening to oneself is an act of self-love.

It was time to stop listening to other people.

Time to Listen to myself.

So, I made it a priority to make time to listen to myself on a regular basis.

It was like giving myself the most precious gift.

Over time I began to see the truth.

I saw how I'd let others control my life.

That I had to be the one to decide what kind of life and relationships I wanted to have with myself and with others.

I was the one to determine what my values and beliefs were.

I had to take back my power!

And guess what?

When I finally took that step, I came to know the real me – all facets of me – the parts I liked and didn’t like! And to embrace all of me!

It wasn't an overnight transformation; it was often messy and uncomfortable.

But ultimately it was worth it.

I now have the strength and courage to make choices that I feel are right for me.

I know what my values and beliefs are.

What about you - are you afraid to listen to yourself?

Knowing yourself is a process that takes time.

But that awareness will become your compass guiding you through life's twists and turns.

Sure, it might feel shaky and awkward at first, just as it did for me.

But over time, it becomes easier and, dare I say it – enjoyable and exciting.

You might even uncover things about yourself that might surprise and even delight you.

Your life, your relationship with yourself and others becomes more fulfilling, richer – real!

You will no longer be riddled with self-doubt.

You gain a confidence unlike anything you could have imagined.

And … you will feel a sense of contentment and inner peace.

Who wouldn’t want that?

So, are you ready to take that step? I'd love to hear your thoughts on this.

Hugs,

Goes right along with my life mantra of "Look Within, Trust Within". I don't always do as much as I should so thank you for the reminder to keep digging deep.
